Weather Station Construction:

Phase 1:
Before the construction of the entire weather station began, the rain gage was tested out on the top of Williams Hall during Hurricane Floyd.  The data collected from this storm is compared to stream flow data which was obtained from a weir on campus.
The tipping bucket rain gage (gold rimmed bucket) is attached to a vent pipe on the roof of Williams Hall.  The amount of rain is every fifteen minutes is collected with a resolution of 0.01 inch. The data logger (inside white box) stores the information for future retreival.  The power supply for the data logger is a battery contained in the water sealed white box.  The battery maintains its charge through the solar panel (blue rectangle in the lower right)
