· A shared facility for environmental science research that serves the faculty of several departments across the three colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, PC Rossing College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the College of Business and Economics.
· A vehicle for environmental science education through the current internship program in conjunction with a set of Local Long Term Environmental Education and Research (LLTEER) sites.
· A conduit for community and professional partnerships
