The photograph above (September 11, 2002) is a view looking NE showing the solar power module in the foreground (for a Trimble GPS base station and radio communications).  The solar-powered Davis Instruments Health Monitor is linked to the computer network via Proxim RangeLAN2 spread spectrum radio modem. Because the rain gage of the current station is not heated the precipitation records are subject to anomalous readings during freezing weather.
