An electronic weather station (Lehigh Weather Station 2) has been located on the roof of Williams Hall at the Packer Campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem Pennsylvania since fall 1999. From 1948-1956 and from 1962-1978 this site was part of the National Weather Service Cooperative Station Network (Coop. ID# 360634, see http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/stationlocator.html). There are also data from this site going back to 1926. From 1956-1962 it was maintained by Lehigh geologist Dr. Paul Myers. |

The photograph above (taken May 2003) is a view looking ENE showing part of the old Bethlehem Steel plant in the background. The solar-powered Davis Instruments Weather Monitor II is linked to the computer network via their spread spectrum radio modem. Because the rain gage of the current station is not heated the precipitation records are subject to anomalous readings during freezing weather. |
